I wonder if you'd feel the same if this was YOUR child! Roll Eyes And no it wasn't my child that was lost for 2 or 4 hours but I certainly can relate and understand these parents' fear and frustration. We aren't talking 10 or 12 year olds that were lost in the shuffle. These are 5 year old kids. So don't patronize me. The board didn't think this through. I'm not stupid. I realize there are thousands of students but tell that to the parent that had the lost child! It shouldn't have happened and wouldn't have if the kids went to school in the district where they live.

I don't understand why you think I patronized you. I still think that when you move large number of students, a few will go in the wrong direction. I get the feeling like you would like to go back to the black schools / white schools that we had back in the 60's. I think we would all lose if that happened (even if the courts were to allow it). I personally think that kids need to understand and be able to deal with others of different races and cultures.

It's not about race AT ALL. It's a bad situation for any of the kids to be transported totally out of their living area. I asked this in a prior post that you may not have seen, but what if a child bussed from a poor end out town gets sick and those parents have no car...how will they go an hour away to get a child? Maybe before they had a neighbor or family member who could pick the child up. Well what if they don't have a car either and can't get the sick child?

My point is that if they didn't bus kids an hour from where they live, this mix-up wouldn't have happened at all. When it's YOUR kindergarten student lost for a few hours, would you feel the same way as you do now?

And to set the record straight...I'm not from Louisville and know nothing of the bussing issues back in the day. My opinion has nothing to do with race but everything to do with kindergarten kids having to be on a bus for an hour. And worse yet, getting lost.

I understand where you're coming from. You make some good points. I don't see anything changing, however, any time soon. Confused

Buses are not the only thing overcrowded with this plan. So are the classrooms. Everywhere except downtown. Now, how can this help the students when parents have no transportation to get involved in the school if they don't have their own transportation. Once again, they will have to rely on a bus to get to the neighborhood where their child has been sent. What will they do when their child becomes sick? Good plan? I think not. There must be a smarter plan than this!

I am surprised that one of the local news stations hasn't picked up on this as yet! I guess they don't have children on overcrowded buses or classrooms!

From what I understand, the reasoning behind bussing kids was to take (smarter) kids from a school that tested higher and move them to a low-test school so that it would bring those test scores up. The problem with that is, will a child who once tested well in a prior school still test so well after being on a bus for an hour in the morning? I mean...it will have to be a long, tiring process for that child and I can only hope he continues to thrive.

It's just unfortunate that the school board is leaving it to the CHILDREN to bring up test scores in bad schools instead of focusing on that school itself and use ADULTS to make a better school. Either by investing more time and or money and hiring better teachers for the lower test score districts. Don't punish the children...on either side.
