It will cost my household Per Income. If I earn $38,000 and the wife earns $38,000 we will be taxed $152. $152 x the next 20 years is around $3040. This is providing they do not raise the tax in the future. The main issue is the tax will bring in an extra 40 million dollars a year that they will not use for the library but will use on some pork barrel project. They will reduce the amount of money they are currently putting in the library so the extra money will actually go elsewhere. The deceitful way it is being tried is a sham. I think the Louisville people will see through it in the end and defeat this new tax law. I am voting NO on a new tax.

I hope the people of Louisville can see through it... Unfortunately is it very difficult to find the real story. Most of the media is behind the tax and are doing a very good job of keeping the real story hidden. If you google the Louisville Library Tax, on the 3rd page you will find http://www.hotlinetohal.com/ Take a look and tell if you can still vote for this tax? Keep in mind, you are voting to tax people who have no say in the decision. You are voting for Jerry to pick 5 cronies to oversee the spending of our money. Doesn't sound very democratic to me....

This amount is ok with me since I don't buy scratch offs, play lotteries or go to the "boat", I can help our library system. Besides I WANT TO HELP OUR LIBRARIES COME INTO THE 21ST CENTURY!
what do buying scratch offs or lottery tickets have to do with a new tax? At the heart of the issue is mismanagement of existing funds. So to compensate for their lack of accountablity and responsibility, we the tax payers are being asked to take up the slack. Oh and by the way, give them more power to abuse.

You want to back up that vague claim of "mismanagement of existing funds"??? It's so easy to allege that funds are being wasted but much harder to come up with some concrete example of funds being wasted on the local level. I will acknowledge that some small-scale waste may exist but I don't see any evidence of a wide-scale misuse of resources. Are we going to starve our local libraries to death while pointing to some inefficiency, real or imagined??? Are we going to deprive our young folks of an additional resource to develop and maintain literacy??? Are we going to deprive local job seekers of a resource to assist them in job searches and career development??? Are we going to shut out our seniors, many of whom rely on the library for books, large print materials, and talking books??? I don't like to pay taxes more than anyone else but to me ignorance perpetuated by mediocre libraries has a much higher cost that the modest amount of dollars that a great library will cost us. I urge everyone to vote 'Yes' on the library referendum November 6th.
