Frankly, I'm already tired of this election and we have another year to endure. I would like to see some changes to the whole system nationwide: 1. Limit the amount of money a candidate can spend to $50 million. That should make it easier for any "Joe Citizen" to toss his/her hat into the ring. It would also be a good indicator of who can budget their money the wisest. 2. Eliminate caucuses (I wonder how much "stuff" was promised to Iowa & New Hampshire?). All states will hold a primary election on the SAME date to determine their party's nominee. 3. There will be no TV ads prior to Jan. 1 of the election year. This would give them four months to get the word out for the primary and six months for the general election. Hopefully, the candidate will spend their money on positive messages and not waste it on back-stabbing, negative ads. I know this is all pie-in-the-sky thinking, but wouldn't it be nice?
Who cares if Joe Republican or Bob Democrat smoked pot with Willie Nelson in the 60's.
Anyway my point is candidates should be steadfast in what they would do for this country and do what they say... have the decency to back up what they say instead of promising things just to get elected. That's never the case and hence why I hate party politics.

Not only would the candidates need to abide by the four-month restriction, the PAC's (political action committees) would have to go along too and that would be highly unlikely. PAC's would probably cite freedom of speech in fighting any restrictions in political ads independent of any candidate.
