Why is it that our wonderful city can salt the roads when there is no snow, but when we do have snow and dangerous conditions. There is no salt trucks to be found until after the car accidents have occured and the snow has melted?

I hope your boss is a little more realistic than you are in regards to faulting the road crews. No matter how well they do, there will always be a need to reduce your rate of speed and increase your following distance when we have snow, ice, freezing rain, etc. Inappropriate speed and following too close is what causes most, if not all, of these accidents yesterday. If these bozos would just leave fifteen or thirty minutes earlier, these accidents could be reduced dramatically.

As far as your allegation that our city salts streets when there is no snow, I have to assume that you're talking about the recent weekend when they put down brine in anticipation of a forcasted snow that did not materialized. Brine is most effective, I understand, when put down prior to the snow or ice. Why are you condemning our public works department for being prepared? Why not fault the weather person??? You would be the first to blame them if we had gotten several inches of snow and they hadn't gotten the brine solution down.

You really ought to grow up. Neither forcasting or road clearing is an exact science. Further, it forever be necessary for people to adjust their driving in response to conditions. Speed and stupidity kills. Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Don't let the sound of your own wheels make you crazy.

Just do not drive if you do not have to. If you do have to leave early so you can take your time. It's not that hard.

ok..so the salt trucks are out on the roads for your safety as soon as they have word that there is going to be snow..The snow trucks are out there..and it doesn't snow..What do ignorant people do? COMPLAIN. The salt trucks have no awareness that the snow is coming because the meterologists say that the snow is going directly south of us, and then we get snow... the Transportation Department of Highways(my DAD) sends out the trucks as fast as humanly possible to get workers in at such short notice and the roads are clear by noon and what do ignorant people do? COMPLAIN Face it. You people will never be satisfied with what the government and transportation department of highways is trying to do for you. Mad Mad

French Toast. I'm not sure what my boss has to do with my comment. As for the weather forecasters, they are wrong more than they are right when it comes to snow. How about the lame excuse that the Office of the Mayor gave the paper this morning? It was too cold to salt. I would have to ask what kind of salt they are purchasing? As a native Chicagoan, temperature is a lousy excuse for not pre-treating the roads. One of the government's duties is to keep the roads that they are responsible for safe and clean. Waiting for the sun to come out and do the work for them is not acceptable.
American Woman - 1) I had to go out yesterday and 2) I left 20 minutes earlier than I needed to. I still ended up doing +$1200 worth of damage to my car because they could not clear the roads.
