I urge the Shelby County student to break out in spontaneous prayer in the same manner that the Russell County students did about a week ago. As long as it has no planning or assistance by school administrators, it is perfectly legal. ACLU eat your heart out. Razzer

If you don't mind me asking, what is your opinion on separation of church and state? We have had discussions about it in school, but everyone seems to interpret that differently than I do.

I think that schools and government in general needs to steer clear of teaching or advocating any religious viewpoint. Having said that, I think the situation is a little different for graduations. It is possible to get your high school diploma without attending graduation ceremonies. Also, students themselves often plan and carry out much of the details surrounding graduation ceremonies. As long as school administrators don't mandate a prayer or dictate a particular religious 'flavor', I don't see a problem.

BTW: I understand that the Shelby county students are planning to recite the Lord's prayer on their own. They must of read this forum. Smiler
