I was wondering if anyone else is having a problem this year with their animals shedding excessively? My dog usually sheds really bad twice a year but this whole summer, she's a walking shed-bag. Eeker I'm not sure if it's because of the really strange weather we've been having or if it's because I changed her from Frontline to another type of flea control. Your input would be greatly appreciated.

And I'm sorry if I posted this in the wrong place. Doesn't seem to be a place for pet (or other types of) discussions. Wave 3...can you add a misc. discussion board? Big Grin

I have a border collie / husky mix at 75 pounds. He sheds heavily most of the time. (He's kept indoors most of the time.) Two things that help me a lot are a slicker brush and a Furminator comb. The slicker brush is quick and easy and I usually use it every other day. The Furminator comb I usually use once every two weeks. The comb suppose to cut down on the undercoat. It does seem to help a lot when it's used regularly. You can get it at most pet shops. I have found good knock offs at some discount stores.

Hope this helps. Smiler

Thanks 'cats. Yeah, my dog is a border collie/lab mix. Her hair is medium. Not as short as a lab but not as long as a border collie. I think we discussed our dogs before on another post (regarding them being scaredy cats during storms).

I actually brush her quite often. I was just concerned cause I'd never seen her shed this much. I have heard it's going to be an early winter so I thought that might have something to do with it. I'm just hoping it's not the Advantage (I think that's what it is) that I put her on. She doesn't like it either. She'd just stand there when I put Frontline on her. Now she tries to run from the new stuff. That's what made me start to wonder (and worry) that it could be something else!

I don't see a dog being able to sense what you're putting on them. I am glad that you're using a brand name topical flea control. Some of the cheapie flea controls at the dollar type stores can actually poison your dog and there's not much legal recourse for most mutts. Frowner

Ha...you don't know my dog! She knows. Trust me - she knows! Maybe it burned the times I put it on so that's why she tries to get away now when she knows I'm putting it on. She also knows when it's bath time. No matter how sneaky I try to be, she knows when we are going to bath her. You have a border collie mix...you know how smart they are. Big Grin
