I swear this forum is going to break my funny bone in half. I'm actually afraid that I will lose the ability to find anything else funny after this. But it keeps getting better. Well if you were in the military then you would have had a service number (AKA. Serial number).

Yeah, it was called a social security number. Everyone has one. In the Army it was even printed on our dog-tags. Just for kicks, I even dragged out a copy of my DD-214... guess what? "Service number" or "serial number" DOESN'T APPEAR AT ALL. That's a real knee slapper Justin. Maybe it's different now, but like I said, we really didn't have 'service numbers'. Had you served, maybe you'd know more about it.

You must have served before 1985 then because the numbers are either serial OR service and they refer to the same TWO sets on any dog tag. This is trite, get back on the subject of this thread.

I like the topic of you being wrong, it's very familiar ground. I served from '88-92. I still have my dog-tags too, they both have my social security number. The order of info on them is: Last Name First Name & Middle Initial Social Security Number Blood Type Religion Maybe you're thinking of before '85? Maybe they've done away with using SSN because of ID theft now? Maybe my enlistment fell into a slot where they transitioned from a "serial number" to using the SSN. Either way, like I said... we didn't have a 'serial number' or 'service number'. We had our social security number. It's the same number issued to me when i was a kid and printed on my Social Security card. If we had a serial number, it would have shown up on the DD-214.
