PLEASE, tell me that Steve Langford’s latest Hot Button segment was a joke or some drug induced episode the station will soon be apologizing for.

“Purple cool-aid drinking?”

“Islamic theology as the basis for these terrorists.”

Have you lost your mind Steve?!
You talk about the media over generalizing the US or glorifying the efforts of terrorism yet you generalize and spout bigotry against Islam in general.

NEED I REMIND YOU, that the population of those in the Islamic community who promote hate against the US make up a MINORITY of the Muslim population world wide.
Even more so in that Minority are those who have ever actually carried out attacks against the US. Fewer still who have ever carried out attacks on or even near US soil.
Steve Langford!
Islam has NOTHING to do with terrorism, you should know better than this and you should know better then to generalize and use bigotry to get your point across.

I would like very much to come on Hot button in defense of Islam in this matter and to offer an apology to the Muslim population of Louisville on behalf of Wave3 for these ignorant and hateful remarks.

Thank you,

Justin La Plante

Gee, Mr. La Plante. I am so glad that we have bleeding hearts like yourself who want to apologize to some of the same people who attacked the twin towers and the Pentagon on 09/11/2001. Are you of the mindset that the people who went to work that day in New York and Washington, D.C. did something to provoke these attackers or are you satisfied to say that we shouldn't lump all these folks together just because the overwhelming majority of them have been of the Muslim faith???

I grant you that we can't hold each and every Muslim believer individually responsible for the multiple, horrific events of 09/11 but I do believe that the Muslim community is complicit on some collective level due their collective reluctance to denounce these attacks in the name of Islam.

I know that I would be very quick to disassociate myself if my church or faith was to assault people in the name of my faith. I also know that the Muslim faith does lend itself to labeling non-believers as "infidels" and according to some, prescribes death for all infidels.

My conclusion is that everyone should try to learn more about the Muslim religion in an objective manner. I truly believe that Muslims every where may have allowed their religion to be hijacked by those whose intentions are not so honorable or true to the Muslim faith. If this is the case, they can expect to be condemned as a group for their passive acceptance of these missteps of their faith.

Toast,
If you saw the hot button segment I just did for the station you would notice that I point out the Ku Klux Klan and the Mormons and ask quite simply if the general consensus of Christianity should be based on those bad examples.
We aren’t hearing to much denouncement from the Christian majority over wrongful acts against Islam by US forces in Iraq or at Gitmo either.
Sometimes faith just shouldn’t be part of the issue.

An eye for an eye makes the world blind.

These terrorists and those who promote it are using faith as a tool. They are no more Muslim then you or I. Saying they are just feeds them what they want. Just as Mormons and Ku Klux Klan members feel empowered by calling themselves Christians.
Sometimes you have to grow a back bone, stand up and be the bigger person.
As for being called infidels for not being Muslim. That is yet another common generalization that people who have no idea about Islam make quite often based on what they see in war movies from the 1980's.
This is 2007 and there are billions of Muslims who don’t care who you are or what you believe.

Its just time to grow up.
Simple as that.

I'm open to the idea, Justin, that not all Muslims are behind the extremist attacks on our country but I'm still leery of any religion that lends itself so readily to suicide bombers who seek to kill multitudes of innocents with the promise of 72 virgins waiting for them in 'heaven'.

With some of these people insisting that the U.S. nation convert to the Islam religion and an Islamic form of government, I would rather approach the issue in a very cautious way rather that embracing my alleged Islamic brethren in the warm and fuzzy way you suggest. I am not eager to see bus bombings and suicide vest wearers becoming a standard staple in our larger U.S. cities.

Better safe than sorry. Roll Eyes

P.S. I do not watch war movies from the 80's. Thank you for that lame characterization. Roll Eyes Roll Eyes
