What I want to know is should we inflict monetary penalties upon smokers for the extra health care costs they may cause or should we leave them be because they'll die off earlier and represent less of a financial drain on our social security, pensions, and other retirement accounts.

I wish smoking in all resturants was banned. My hubby and I went to the new Mexican resturant in Bardstown last night,we were seated in the non-smoking section ,but we may as well have been smoking. There is no seperation between the two sections except for a half wall with a huge windowless window that allows the smoke to come right on over. We could have asked for another table, but the place was so crowded,I dont think there was another table empty. Kittyman, I think we, the non-smokers will die off first from the second hand smoke before the smokers will!! Dont get me wrong, they can smoke all they want to ,but I quit almost 20 years ago and I dont want that goop in my body.I dont want to have lung cancer from the second hand smoke they spew out. It clogs my nose and gives me headaches and I cant breath. How I ever tolerated the cigs ,I dont know !

Interesting concept, but who gets to decide what is "not good for you"? Depending on what study you look at, most everything is bad for you. Even life saving drugs can kill you if abused. I think moderation is the key (except for the smokes... they are bad regardless). I don't want someone else deciding what is good for me or not and taxing accordingly. I want them to learn how to be responsible in the spending of the tax money they already have!

hey Angel, we tried out that new Mexican restaurant Saturday night. We sat in the smokers section, but I did not notice a problem. Maybe when you were there the ventilation was not working properly? I thought the food was great, decor was pleasing... enjoyable all the way around. Dramatically better than the other Mexican restaurant in town. They have the tables so packed in there that you can hardly walk. The new one was very roomy and not so dark that I could not see what I was eating.
