It seems to me that you're trying to blame the victim. Parents should be able to count on the coach being well trained on restricting practice in times of high heat. As for my possible reasons not being valid, I think you're not thinking in the real world. Parents are reluctant to interfere because of the expectation that the coach and only the coach is in charge. Any parent can tell you that their adolescent doesn't want them butting in and creating 'a scene'. Further, how could you expect a non-medically trained father to understand what he was witnessing???

I'm tired of everyone trying to dump blame in the father's lap just because he happened to be on the sidelines for a small fraction of the time practice was going on. We ought to be able to count on our coaches to base practice on preparedness needs and not some crazy idea that 'we going to do sprints until someone drops out'. Coach Stinson chose an awfully stupid way of thinning out his team. Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Now, Toast. I stated that I am certainly not suggesting he is at fault,..." And I am not tryin to blame him. I just found it harsh that he blamed the coach for not seeing something that he himself did not see.

With regard to your arguments for why he may have seen and kept silent... I don't buy it. And if he was concerned but pride kept him quite, then shame on him.

This is another one of those cases where I am not convinced that ANYONE is to blame. From what I have read, there was no autopsy done, so cause of death could have been the result of a previously undiagnosed condition that made him predisposed to issues with heat. WE JUST DON'T KNOW.

Guilty or not guilty, being in healthcare I question why on earth the coroner didn't request an autopsy. While he was sure Max died of heat related complications there still could have been an underlying medical condition present that contributed to his death. No one will ever really know. I pray for both the coach and Max's family

Berman: PRP looking for new football coach

Coach Stinson is out (at least for now). I think that Superintendent Berman has made a good call on this one. JCPS would be on the hook for a big liability judgment if this coach was to kill another young man. He has pretty much admitted to his reckless actions that led to Max Gilpin's death.
