This is not entirely true, Melissa Ann. Only the distribution workers are on strike at this time. This includes truck drivers, mechanics and warehouse employees. So far, the stores are not directly affected.
If I was the distribution workers, I would think twice about going on some prolonged strike. Kroger is fighting for its corporate life with Wal*Mart venturing into groceries. Over at Poplar Level and Hess Lane, Wal*Mart has recently opened up one of their Neighborhood Mart stores.
The Neighborhood Mart is sandwiched between a Kroger one mile north at Eastern Parkway and Goss Avenue and a Kroger one mile south on Poplar Level. Something tells me that both Kroger stores won't survive.
On top of all this, you have stores like Whole Foods and Aldi. Kroger does not have the ability to charge whatever they want. Consequently, the pressure is on Kroger to keep its costs, including labor, under control. The union could end up killing the goose the laid the golden egg.

Nope. That's not me. I love Aldis! You shop there too? I don't go to Kroger unless it's late and I have to have something otherwise I am at Aldis and Save-A-Lot. I've shopped in Wal*Mart about four times and only been in Meijers three times and their prices are too high for me.
