My friend rents a small apartment above a business near Old Louisville. Recently, her phone line went out and she called BellSouth. BellSouth ran a test on her phone line and determined that the problem is in her 'inside wiring'. It'll cost her at least $45 to get it fixed if she wants BellSouth to do the work. She's talked to her landlord and they have told her that they (the landlord) installed the wiring before the interior walls were finished. My friend has come to the conclusion that the landlord is responsible for fixing the mess.

Who would you expect to expect the inside phone wiring, the landlord or the tenant??? A couple of decades ago the phone company would have fixed the wiring inside or out but they don't do it this way any more. I rented for some twenty years and I never had this problem. I’ve offered to try to fix this for her but some of the wiring appears to travel through the business space below. Confused Confused Confused

Wrong the landlord is exempt of wiring only the internal and external structure problems. She should have payed Bell South the $2.50 wiring fee a month for any unforeseen problems.

Really? That surprises me. I would have thought the landlord was responsible for the wiring. Does that apply to electrical wiring and plumbing as well?

Electrical wiring and plumbing = structure to me. The problem is you can get sued messing with BellSouth Equipment. It almost landed me in jail once, most old homes in Old Louisville were wired by BellSouth not like the prewired homes of today. Give me a moment and I will give you the building codes here in Old Louisville or the link to them. I should have said Telephone wiring forgive me please.
