cindy's topic was should mcdonalds have paid money to the victim of the hoax. well... is the corporate image more important than safety? did mcdonalds fail to notify employees and the media of such embarrasing image tanishing past hoax's? ok nope. and when this happens again you can bet money will direct their choice to advertise/warn of such dangers. will they consider the 16 million to be paid to future victims or the possible reduction of their 16 million target figure of daily burgers they need to sell that day will dictate their choice instead. Its easy to have an armchair perspective and have opinions on how we believe others should act, but that is a judgemental "blame the victim attitude". too bad people will remember the $ some girl recevied from mcdonalds, and she will be remember right along with the lady who received a goldmine from burning her mouth on mcdonalds coffee. we should remember that the instigator/criminal went free. david stewart was aqquitted. had mcdonalds employees been alerted, perhaps a prison sentence would have awaited this creep. should we as a society give civil judgements to those who are hurt and can't see criminals recieve punishment? nope. we should hold corporations responsible for not having the safty of employees valued over possible bad pubilcity.
Don't blame McDonald's completely. It's always so easy to blame the corporations because they have money to pay. However, when do people take responsibility for themselves. I think it was a scam.
I mean, think about it. First, the girl was 18...old enough to have known that something wasn't right about what was happening...especially when the spanking/sexual abuse started (heck, even 4-5 year olds know that inappropriate touching is not okay). However, in her defense, let's say she was naive enough to have fallen for the strip search part of it...it is the stuff to occur after the initial strip search that makes no sense whatsoever as to why she let it go on...or why any of them let it go on without checking out the 'caller' and CONFIRMING he was who he said he was. I mean...he was on the phone for God's sakes. He could have been ANYONE, and, in fact, he was.
Second, whether McDonalds told the manager(s) about this "hoax" or not, common sense tells you that what the 'hoax caller' was telling them to do was NOT right. The manager nor her boyfriend were teenagers and WERE old enough to know better!
Third, and just why was the manager's boyfriend involved AT ALL??? He shouldn't have been in that room, period!
Fourth, sexual abuse is NEVER, EVER, EVER okay REGARDLESS of who, what, where, when of the circumstances and if nothing else made sense, surely to God when it got to THIS point, one of them should have said, "Huh...now wait a minute...". Of course, for what the manager's boyfriend got out of it, I bet he wasn't stopping it!!!
At what point does people take responsibility for their own culpability???
Bottom line...McDonald's has 'corporate' money and they saw a way to make a lot of money without having to accept responsibility for their own actions or inactions.

Maybe you will need someone to mow your lawn or do some landscaping someday. If they get stung by a wasp that has a nest hidden in one of your trees you may just get sued and no longer own your home. Don't stutter, you should have been aware of the wasp's nest after all it is your home or was your home!
live love laugh....hmmm blame the victim banana pudding.... ok i dont know of a wasp nest but mcdonalds knew of past hoaxs and could have but did not warn their employees.
