Back in August of 2006 there was a law passed that Lice Nits were ok for school.
WHAT!?! HUH!?! Exactly! I was shocked to find out that any student who has Lice Nits is allowed to remain in school. I was told by a teacher. To double check on my way out of the school I asked the front office,it was true. So to further educate myself on the matter I called the Health Department and spoke with L. Martin. She confirmed it was true.
So here it is Oct. 30,2007 and I am just now finding this out!!!

While at my child's school today a student was scratching her head every couple of minutes. Next thing I know she was being called out of class. She came back some time later. Other students were called until everyone had been checked. The stidents wqere asking each other "Do you have lice?" All but one answered no. The little girl didn't answer at all. The teacher corrected them about asking.
So when I asked how come she wasn't being sent home here was my answer:
"August of 2006 a law was passed that we are not allowed to send students home just because they have Lice Nits in their hair." "We can only send them home if they have live Lice crawling about."
I asked how come us parents were not informed of such a change. Her answer:
"The school was supposed to have sent out a letter last year, all JCPS were supposed to."
I contacted Greg Stumbo and many others. I will keep contacting them until someone does something about this.
So far Mr. Stumbo's wife is the only one who has replied to me. This is what she said:
(Mrs. Blank), I am going to forward this to Charlotte Land In Greg's office in Frankfort. They will better be able to address your issues. Best of luck. By the way, we have an almost 8 year old and I understand your positions.
