Why beat up on LG&E??? They provide great service, our rates are among the lowest in the U.S., and they are good stewards of the environment. They offer customers different ways to manage their bills including budget billing (equalized payments throughout the year), home energy audits for $15, and demand conservation management (special switch hooked up to your central air conditioner which helps to lessen the need for peaking units and new power plants and gives you $5 off your bill during summer months). Electric and gas utilities have traditionally been considered natural monopolies due to the high financial and social costs of building duplicate sets of power lines and gas distribution systems. Only recently have communities attempted to offer competition by offering gas and electric systems via existing infrastructure. Considering what California's experience has been with utility competition, I'm not eager to see it offered locally. I appreciate the reliable service offered by LG&E and E-on and the low rates we enjoy.
