I am a substitute teacher. I wish more parents were involved. Unfortunately, I don't get to sub much. I live for my kids. I am the mom that basically lives at school. If I'm not working I'm volunteering, on a daily basis. I feel like you have to involve yourself in order to know what's going on within your school, especially elementary age. I have a daughter who is now in middle school and although my volunteerism has not been needed near as much at this level, I'm still there as much as possible. The staff and faculty know me at both schools and don't hesitate to call me with any issue they might have. My kids are not angels but they do NOT misbehave at school, they save that for me. Razzer My middle school aged child's teacher has called me to inform me of things like the group that my daughter was hanging out with, not so good. She asked if she could try to steer her away from that and into a different direction by offering her a few alternatives such as helping her in her class when she finishes her work early. My daughter loves to help so of course she chose that route. Without my involvement I doubt that conversation would have ever taken place between myself and the teacher and who knows what might have happened with my child.
