What are your thoughts on this?

Zoo,I believe you were once or are a teacher.
What in your opinion are the pros and cons to each.

Yep, many years ago, I was a teacher. I have taught in both public and private schools... and definitely have an opinion on this matter!
I think very few parents (who have not obtained a degree in education) have the skills to home school beyond about the 5th grade. Even private schools struggle to provide the educational opportunities available in public schools, ie- chemistry, biology, calculus, accounting, etc.
Additionally, schools provide a socialization opportunity that kids that are home schooled don't get.
I know some argue that the public schools are not safe, kids are exposed to drugs, alcohol, etc. That may be true, but keeping them in a glass bubble does not teach them how to resist the temptations which I feel is very important.
I could go on, but I will take a breath as I am sure more than a few will dispute my opinion.

Sorry to disappoint you, ZOO, but I'm inclined to agree with you. A kid is going to have to live with other when they grow up so why not have them learn to deal with others as they grow up? Confused

One of the things that has me rattled is how children are treated in the Public School system.

I have seen some ill-tempered employees. Ones who have no business working with children.
