Morning to ya there kittyman. I never claimed anything true about this e-mail. But you have got to admit that some of what is in there rings true. People who have come into this country seem to want to live here but also they want to bring their old country with them. That is all right to an extent. When people from another country want to do away with prayer in this country,or any of our other customs just because they dont believe in them, then something is wrong. I am not saying they have to bow down and worship and believe like I do, but anyone who has joined into this country should also respect us,not just the one way street of us bowing down to them . They come into this country they should learn our language and ways, they should adopt them. They should uphold them.Have you noticed in the grocery store on the lables of items that you buy,you have to turn the product over to even read in english what it is or what it does?We shouldnt have to do that. I am not spewing hate here.If they dont want to adopt the American ways then they can go back to where ever they came from and uphold the ways of their country.
Joshua 24:15,,,but as for me and my house,we will serve the Lord.

I understand that, Angel. What Snopes.com brings out is that the 'old' immigrants haven't always assimilated as well we think they did. Some took to criminal means to support themselves and some set up their own communities (like Little Germany and Chinatown) to help insulate themselves from any need to adopt new customs. The good ol' days aren't always as good as we remember.

I am sure you are right, Toast regarding the "old Immigrants"... But I think the thing that so many of us are frustrated with is the proliferation of accomodations that are being made to folks who chose to not speak English, or want special treatment based on their culture or religious preferences. I am becoming accustomed to it, but it is frustrating that when I get one of those computer answering services, that I have to press "1" for English... This is the United States of America and for whatever reasons, we have chosen to not have an official national language! Yes, I know we are a terribly narrow minded people. Even childen in most other countries are bi-lingual. Now I am rambling.... sorry. Bottom line is that I wish those coming to our country would make a greater effort to if not assimilate, at least not alienate those who are legal citizens.

It shouldn't have been allowed to go on for so long and maybe JUST MAYBE it wouldn't be as bad as it is now. You do not allow your child to be bad over and over and over again and then out of nowhere decide it's time to turn him or her into a decent well mannered child.
It's a complete mess because it's been allowed for so long.
