I grew up in the 60's and 70's as well. There were stererotypes that were handed to my generation as well. Thankfully I learned that the current reality was different and did not continue to foster the notions that may have been true in the past. At some point we have got to quite using the past as justification for actions in the present. There needs to be a leader that the black community respects who can dispel the mythes and work with both the public and the police on constructive actions, rather than excuses.
It's not the past when black folks still get pulled over because they are seen as up to something over a car that some feel they can't honestly(honest the key word here) afford. There's something wrong with that car-(stolen). Now I'm not saying every brotha or sista has that done to them, but many black men riding alone have it done to them.
MJ that's all I'm talking about....Zoo, French Toast can't even believe that it still happens. And if it did happen that black guy did something to deserve it..point blank!!! What i can't believe is that 50% of white Americans still believe that all that hostility towards black Americans stopped at Lincoln's emancipation proclamation, my answer to that is wake up.
No, Phoenix, I don't think that all racism has magically stopped. I just don't think it is as one-sided as you seem to think it is. I once got stopped by the police for DWW (driving while white) in a predominantly black neighborhood. The police officer, black, didn't even state a traffic offense. He just came out and asked me what "a guy like you" was doing in the neighborhood. Looking back on it, I guess I did stick out like a sore thumb.

Just Passing threw innocent enough or 2.)They are looking for the criminal element such as drugs, prostitutes, weapons etc. Once my car broke down and a co-worker came to pick me up. The police saw both a black man & white woman in the car at 6:00am in the morning they decided to stop and investigate guns drawn. She lost her mind on me when I told her not to make any sudden movements when the officers approached the car, she was in tears from fear(co-worker). They tried their best to comfort her she was balling. We told them we where on our way to work ID badges showing. They couldn't understand a word she was saying of course she was German, ounce they let us go (routine stop they said) That German Girl swore that she would never pick me up again. She said nothing like that ever happen to her before in Germany or America. Her husband is a big wig in Fort Knox and he wanted to know their badge numbers and names I never heard nothing else about. Mind you French toast I have no record, worked for everything my family owns but We was treated like criminals. This happen in Dec 2006. We were passing threw a predominantly black neighborhood partner. Did that black officer draw his weapon on you player???

Drawing weapons should be reserved for subjects that pose a known heightened threat like bank robbers. Even if you had picked up a prostitute or bought some illicit drugs, it would not constitute an abnormal threat to the officer's safety.
