People always say that blacks are scared of the police and therefore, they run. It's seems to me like this is a self-fulfilling prophecy. When ever we have a black person killed by the police, we have these self-appointed black leaders like Reverend Louis Coleman or Christopher 2X holding press conferences and/or staging marches. They always seem to talk about the injustice of another black citizen killed.
When white guys are killed by the police, you'll see news reports but you rarely have press conferences or protest marches. It seems to me that by highlighting the deaths of black citizens and dragging it out in the media for a longer time, we are perpetuating the false notion that police are out to kill blacks. Am I missing something here?

Well catman I must say it’s a mix between truth and falsehood. Cat it was a bad problem in the 60s, 70s, 80s, even into the med 90s. Policeman was very violent toward black Americans fact not fiction. Not to say those black offenders where not breaking the law, just saying a black man was handled harsher than there white counterparts, even to this day whites are handed lighter sentences for the same crime. Now that stigmatism has been handed down father to son “beware of the police.” So yes; it is very possible for a black youth to fear police officers it’s a learned response. Now on the other hand you have thugs, killing, raping, robbing you get my point, this group is not running away because they are scared, they are running away because they don’t want to get caught. And when something goes wrong such as a shooting, being hit by a vehicle because a youth is evading the police the older blacks remember the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and they pass judgment. Then those older black folks run right to Rev. Coleman, etc... So who is wrong the police? Or those blacks that remembered the unfairness they received Back in the days.
I see your point, Phoenix, but we can't keep using the past as an excuse for our actions in the present. I grew up in the 60's and 70's as well. There were stererotypes that were handed to my generation as well. Thankfully I learned that the current reality was different and did not continue to foster the notions that may have been true in the past. At some point we have got to quite using the past as justification for actions in the present. There needs to be a leader that the black community respects who can dispel the mythes and work with both the public and the police on constructive actions, rather than excuses.

It's funny and so typical to hear a white person say those words to a black person. Catman asked a question I tried to give a possible answer with out excuses. JLH you are the typical angry white female, mad at the world because something is not going your way. And it should go your way right? blame it on the Mexicans, the Black people, and anyone else that is different. I'm not mad at you, just sad that you went that path. Are you not guilty of what you accuse me of? making excuses!!! Heal yourself JLH, then come to me talking about a cure for me and my race. Yours Truly Phoenix!!!

Hello, I am new to this Wave 3 message board, so bear with me! I was reading the responses to French Toast's question, and was just down-right appalled by Zoo's response! Whoa, what a messed-up thing to say about a race! "Stop using excuses, forget the past it isn't relative"! What are you thinking, what is America based on if not the past. What do are children say every morning at school before they start their classes! -The National Anthem!- Which is from our past. Our forefather made the Anthem, and lived by it and we try to live by the Anthem in this era! Why must anyone forget their past? The past is the building blocks to the future!!!
