As a family member of one of those lost in the tragic Beverly Hills Supper Club fire of 1977 I find it unfortunate that more has not been done to remember those who died, their survivors and the heroic efforts of many who escaped and those who fought the fire. Every several years I search the internet for articles, photos, any honorable event that may recognize this horrible event.
So many memorials, dedications, and ceremonies take place every Memorial Day for other less worthy causes. What is being done for those of us who still remember, mourn and long for a place to go. Where are the support groups for survivors. I challenge someone to stand up and do something for those who were blessed with life, not death who are still greiving.

I think one of the best ways to memorialize those who perished is to never allow conditions to fester which gave way to this tragedy. When I go into theaters, stores, or other public places, I check for multiple exits and I sometimes check them to see that they are unlocked.
It blows my mind to read that they had tables set up on the ramps to the stage and that the Cabaret room was at three times capacity. Exits were not proper in most cases and much of the building had been constructed without permits or inspections.
Nobody plans on having a fire. Always be prepared.

You are right. Other than those who have been through it, what reminders are there for those who have not. Many would never think to check for exits, etc.
