I wish the local weather stations would get on board with rest of the weather world. A watch means conditions are favorable and might develope.
A warning means one has actually been spotted, it is currently happening. My family has actually gotten where we ignore tornado warnings because they are usually the weather guys crying wolf, again. Here is a link if you want to read up on it.

I had not noticed that the local stations defined it differently....

Perhaps you need to listen more carefully. From what I've seen, all of the local stations do differentiate between watches and warnings. My guess is that you're griping about one local station that reported a possible tornado in the Crescent Hill area recently. If a local station has reliable word that there may be a twister on the ground near me, I'd like to know even if that twister has not been verified yet by the National Weather Service. I am capable of deciding whether or not it warrants me getting in my basement. Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes
