Tonight there was a story about how WAVE 3 was the only news station to get to ride around with the police to film them busting men performing public sex acts in parks near families and children. I know that this is a persistent problem and that it needs to be stopped but I have a serious issue with the station showing these men getting caught on film. I do not feel sorry for the men but I do feel bad for their families who have to live with the consequences of these men being on television for everyone to see. There was one man who passed out and it was stated he was married with 2 kids. Now those children will have to deal with the fact that their father was on TV being seen arrested for a sex act. The children and families of these men are innocent victims. This kind of reporting just doesn't hurt the men. WAVE 3 has added to the pain that these families are going to have to deal with just for a story that really is very old news. I hope it was worth it.

It seems to me that your concern correlates very closely with the same over Dateline NBC's To Catch a Predator.

As far as I'm concerned, public humiliation is only one problem that these men themselves inflict upon their wives (and children) when they engage in these disgusting acts. STD's are, perhaps, a larger problem when you consider that AIDS will kill you and herpes has no cure as of yet. If my spouse brought home an STD to me, I would be very, very angry with her.

I feel for the families but I think that anyone with an ounce of brains and just a bit of human compassion will realize that these families did nothing to bring this upon themselves. Ignorant people will always finds things to gossip about and children are forever finding points to tease others about. I don’t consider that sufficient reason to obscure these men’s identities. Confused

smc2866 Thanks for your insights. You make some very good points, but point the finger of blame at the media for bringing it the public's attention.

But we media folks no longer hold a monopoly on that kind of exposure. Nowadays anyone with a camera and a YouTube account can expose these predators just as easily.

These subjects approach men in parked cars without knowing who they are, putting their own lives into danger.

What if instead of police and film crew they encountered a group of thugs who hate gay men, or a group of angry parents upset because their child got an up-close view of what they were doing?

Or maybe they just accidentally bump into a friend of a friend of their family and get caught that way.

In any case, you can't shoot the messenger for making you aware of the situation.

Today these pervs are fondling themselves and looking for willing partners; perhaps tomorrow they'll be more aggressive about finding another participant - willing or not.

So that's why we try to give the public a chance to see what these people look like. Forewarned is forearmed.

I agree with your assessment of the situation entirely, WAVE Admin. The pervs have taken for granted their supposed right to carry on this lewdness in a public parks and other common areas. There are multiple internet sites that will tell these perpetrators where the 'hot' spots are and also warn them of locations that have seen police 0enforcement.

I want to be able to enjoy these parks and common areas with my pets and children without the fear that I accosted for a sexual encounters or that I will witness a lewd act being performed in plain sight. I think the expression that sums it all quite well is "Get a room!!!"

While I do have sypathy for the families of the pervs that may be unfairly subjected to scrutiny, I am much more worried about what will happen if these sickos are allowed to do their sexual romps in public venues. Mad Mad Mad

Police: 'we aren't going to tolerate' lewd behavior in parks (Text)
