Texas mother Otty Sanchez allegedly beheaded newborn baby, ate brain:

A TEXAS woman decapitated her newborn baby and ate pieces of his body before turning a knife on herself, police said today.

Otty Sanchez was covered in blood and screaming "I killed my baby, I want to die'' when police arrived at the modest San Antonio home.

"She mentioned that someone or something told her to do it and she was hearing voices, so that leads us to believe she was experiencing some kind of mental crisis,'' said police spokesman Joe Rios.

The woman had separated from the baby's father about a week earlier and was living with her mother and sister, who were helping to care for the baby born on June 30.

She was discovered holding the decapitated baby by her mother on Sunday morning.

She appeared to have ingested parts of her child - including the brain - after attacking him with a knife, Mr Rios said.

Otty Sanchez's sister and her sister's two children, ages five and seven, were in the house at the time of the killing but were not harmed.

San Antonio police chief William McManus described the crime scene as so grisly police officers barely spoke to each other while looking through the house. Parts of the child were missing, including pieces Ms Sanchez allegedly ate.

"At this particular scene you could have heard a pin drop," Mr McManus said. "No one was speaking. It was about as sombre as it could have been."

Otty Sanchez's aunt, Gloria Sanchez, told a reporter her niece has been "in and out" of a psychiatric ward, and the hospital called several months ago looking to check up on her. She did not elaborate on the nature of her niece's health problems.

"Otty didn't mean to do that. She was not in her right mind," she said. She said her family was devastated.

Otty Sanchez, 33, was charged with capital murder and remained in hospital today.

Mental people should be fixed where they can't have kids. JMO. I hope she doesn't get away with this.

Agreed! Along with those who cannot provide for their well being emotionally, spiritually, mentally and financially....
