no, i do not think they deserve another holiday specifically for them. They already have a holiday, it is the same one as the rest of the workforce in this country. The point was that you chastised me for saying ANYTHING about the police, many here have called them heros just because they wear a badge. Im asking you why it is different for you to question the motives of firfighters than it is for me to question the motives of police officers.

Back to the subject in hand. I dont think us firefighters need a holiday, that is what memorial day is for. I do think we are all as brave as the NYFD and should all have the same respect given. As a volunteer FF i do not make any money, nor do i want to. Most FF's that get paid have got to have a second job just to pay thier bills, so pay is not good. I do my job for the community. Maybe i dont have jets flying into court houses but i do see people dieing or hurt almost every day. It effects us all and coming from a small community where everybody knows everybody that makes the job even harder. If your ever in an accident or your house catches on fire, think about who is going to come and rescue you, paid or not.

Memorial Day? I was thinking Labor Day was when we honor all workers.
Labor day is for honoring all workers but Memorial Day is for remembering those who have died... I think originally it was intended to remember veterans who gave their lives for our country but has since become a time to remember all who have left this world.
