when I was in school (way back in the dark ages), you were not allowed to leave school property during school hours. There were no vending machines except in the teachers lounge and you were not allowed to have food or drinks in the classroom.... Hmmm... the nation has a problem with chlidhood obesity, apparently some parents are not interested in doing anything about it at home and somewhere along the way society has decided children have rights to junk food vending machines in the school.... sure beats the heck out of me!

In my opinion I think the schools should consider healthier snacks and drinks in the machines and maybe less of junk foods or none at all. These days our country is always in a rush. As far as the cafeteria goes... most will agree the school food sucks and that is why they are turning to arby's and pizza hut now. I will say I do not think these foods should be served to kids at school. I think the school cafeterias waste more food than anything making these nasty lunches. I don't know their system as far as school lunches... but it is just my opinion maybe kids would wait until lunch or eat at lunch if they knew they were going to get a good tasting fulfilling lunch. There are different ways to make food that is healthy and kids will eat it, such as flavored chicken with no breading, soups, steamed/flavored broccoli and carrots and the list goes on. When I was in school I only ate lunch when they started serving pizza from pizza hut and arby's sandwiches. Before that I would not eat at all most the time or snack on stuff that was unhealthy. Children see their parents always in a rush. Alot of parents rely on fast food for dinner and tv or the computer as a babysitter. I do not have any children but I will admit that I am guilty of this as well, so I am definitely not scolding anyone. I am just saying maybe it is not the schools full responsibility. Maybe it is not the parents full responsibility. Maybe it is not fully the food companies, fast food companies and so on. Maybe it is our country as a whole. Health is becoming a big topic these days. I cannot say I have a cure for this but our country is becoming so head on with this topic, but it will never be solved without a good solution. There are always going to be fast food joints and so on I am sure. Fast food joints are of course starting to offer salads and grilled chicken breast sandwiches, sub sandwiches and so on, so it does seem like some of this is being addressed. It seems like there is something still missing though at at this second I cannot pinpoint what it is, but nobody should be fully blamed for this. Obese people are ridiculed for being obese and this is very unfortunate. Maybe if kids were more active these days it would not be so bad, but again this is not the full problem. Apparently from little things I have heard physical education is no longer a class in elementary school. Why is this?? It gives children a chance to get exercise everyday or maybe 2 times a week, but again this cannot be the full problem. I am not sure.... these are just all my 2 cents and maybe not everyone agrees maybe everyone disagrees but that is the greatness of our country.
