If he did encourage students in any way to walk out, he may face further disciplinary action up to and including termination. Teachers are expected to uphold school system rules and policies. Encouraging a student walkout would be a pretty serious offense.
I also have to question whether a teacher should be using a derivative of a racial slur even if the hip-hop world has turned it into a term of endearment. While teachers don't need to get snooty, they should serve as role models for their students. Would we tolerate any male teacher wearing loose, baggy pants with their boxers showing just so they could connect with their students??? I don't think so. Mad

Right!

Yes, you make a good point that it was indeed a teacher speaking to a student, but its just a word.

<<<Kids get suspended all the time for saying things. They were just words so why suspend them?>>>

Ok...so don't get me wrong, but why is this teacher being reassigned?

<<<Because he was out of line. He is not at home or some football game. He is SUPPOSED to be a PROFESSIONAL in his line of work.>>>

I've always been thought, treat other how you want to be treated. If a kid used it towards me, I'm not saying I'd use it right back, but I'd do something just as drastic.

<<<You're a kid,he's an ADULT. Big difference. You going to act like him when you're old enough and become a teacher? If so then I hope you get reassigned as well.>>>

African American kids throw that word around like no other and yet if a whitekid happens to say it, its offensive.

<<<First off there's where ALOT(not all)of WHITE folks get their information WRONG. Your post says ALL African Americans, even though you didn't HAVE to say ALL. It's there. Not ALL African Americans think sagging pants are ok,rap or even hip hop is ok,nor calling each other or anyone else "N" anything! My husband does not talk like that nor do we allow our children to. Parents are responsible for what their children say and do NOT teachers so it's not the teachers place to handle it.>>>

I'm not racist at allbut I do have to stand up and say that reassigning that teacher was absurd and un-called for.

<<<It's not uncalled for. He asked for it the minute he forgot he was an ADULT and a PROFESSIONAL.>>>

The kid shouldn't have cared thatmuch, since he was perfectly ok saying it himself.

<<<Exactly a KID said it. The teacher has no right to use it himself just because a KID did. The teacher should have found a better way of saying this is not right and this is why. Example: He could have said today we are skipping World Chaos and are going to discuss BAD words and WHY they should and should not be used.>>>>>

There is not one word that you could call Caucasians and they would reassign a teacher for it.

<<<<There is plenty.>>>

It shouldn't be about a stupid word.

<<<Why not? The teacher was part of this "it shouldn't be about a stupid word." Would that teacher have reassigned the student for saying I think you are the worst teacher ever and I bet you love to eye ball little girls? Of course he would have been in trouble, but hey they are just words right?>>>

I understand it was degrading a few decades ago, but these days it shouldn't be degrading at all, as much as African American call each other that.

<<< Again NOT ALL and when you have a WHITE teacher who does NOT use it on a daily basis then how is one to take it when he says it out of nowhere? Oh he was just kidden right?>>>

Once again, I'm not racist, but I do wonder why they are making such a big deal out of this guy who was just trying to get the kid to stop being so disrespectful.

<<<He is an ADULT and a TEACHER is why he got in trouble and he should be. He should have found a better way to STOP the kid(s) from using certain words in a better way.>>>

See...this is where some people just don't see eye to eye. If I was Daeschner(which thank GOD I'm not) I wouldn't suspend him for it. Well, I take that back. I wouldsuspend him, but only if he didn't see any problem with it at all. And no, American Woman I most certainly did NOT mean ALL African Americans because I don't stereotype people. I don't necessarily agree with him, but I'm saying I would have probably done the same thing to get the student's attention. It's time someone said somethig back to those who throw the word around like nothing. I'm glad this happened.

You would not remain a teacher long. If you act like a kid then you'll be treated like a kid. If he wants treated like an adult and teacher then he needs to act like it. You didn't have to say ALL it was implied.
