I THINK YOU ARE STEPPING OVER THE LINE, DON'T YOU FRENCH TOAST????

I'm wasn't meaning to disrespect your wife or girlfriend, Phoenix. I was just trying to show how the police work to maintain lawful conditions where we can enjoy our community without constant fear of murder, robbery, rape, etc. No slight intended.

Phoenix: I meant brother as in fellow black person. I didn't mean any slight.

Ok this was supposed to be about cruising and has turned into what about business owners on Broadway(regardless of race) so lets leave the race alone and discuss what you THINK would be a positive solution instead of finger pointing and attacking each other.

Personally I think cruising is stupid. I never did it back in my teen days and mostly because my father did it as a teen and said there's nothing to it other than trouble somehow somewhere,so I wasn't ever allowed and it didn't seem that fun to me after hearing from other kids who did it.

Now there are MORE people than police. Everyone can agree on that(I think).

So the question is how to control ISSUES that go on during cruising when there's MORE cruisers than police?

I don't think there will ever be enough that can be done as far as controlling others actions. I don't think it's attractive to see half dressed people laying on top of some car hood pretty much doing adult things out in public that should be in the privacy of their home. Drinking and allowing yourself to get out of control is another ruin for others who can present themselves in a decent manner from cruising. Congesting several streets to "hang out."

We HAVE to accept the FACT police,EMS,Firetrucks,.....can NOT get in or out in a quick fashion if needed with such a huge crowded street area so this was bound to happen-stop the crusing at point A and send them to point B where they can at least have more room. Makes perfect sense.
So those who wish to cruise NEED to compromise so those business owners CAN have total access to making their money.

Shutting down streets are not just to stop cruising. They do it when Mr. President shows up here, they do it when a street has flooded, they do it during Derby on several exit ramps, they do it when there's a gas leak, when roads are being fixed,a serious accident has occured, and sometimes several long hours,so on....

Are these businesses effected during those times as well would be interesting to know an answer to.

The problem here is the people cruising not the Mayor or us on this forum. We ALL KNOW if they were to keep the streets open cruising would go on. People would not just go to the businesses down there and then go find somewhere else to cruise. IF they would do that then this ISSUE would be solved and everyone could remain making money and still cruise(only cruise somewhere else). Everyones happy,BUT because the law has had to step in and do some babysitting there is NOW punishment-NO CRUISING downtown and roads being closed off to make sure they get it!
Then we have business owners saying I WANT my money dagonit! You're taking my money away. Then they should BAN together and tell people YOU are messing up my business! With your cruising and not following orders from the police so everything runs smooth. FIX THIS CRUISERS! We want our business back and the longer you do not follow the no cruising here rule the longer I go withOUT making the money I need to live and to stay afloat!

Safety of all others HAS to come first. Over the businesses and cruisers. No way around that one.

Businesses should come second. They are honest people trying to make a living and support themselves.

Cruisers should be last. That is not important enough to overlap safety of others and people trying to earn a living.

So my only suggestion is for the business owners to ban together and tell the cruisers to stop by their businesses, get what they came for and have fun cruising in their NEW location!

Certain folks are making this harder than it has to be and it's noone elses fault but the cruisers.

Law isn't saying noone can cruise and have a little fun. They are saying safety first and if the cruisers won't accept that then they are the ones the business owners should be p*ssed at,not the police, the Mayor,or whomever else for their loss of money. It's the cruisers who won't give in a little to help with the compromise.

you make very good points, MJ. Typical response of society in general today. Blame someone else for what you are reponsible for. It is not the mayor or the police who are responsible, it is the individuals who have blocked the streets in the past and conducted themselves in a less than acceptable manner.

Besides the business complaints, I keep hearing bout "we just just want to show off our cars". Well, why can't you do that in a parking lot or park? I have been to alot of car shows and not a single one involved blocking multiple city blocks.
