How could anyone begrudge these people. Anyone with half a brain knows that derby brings more consumers, more jobs, it is the high lite of Louisville's economy. But the westend was left out, who in their right mind want a police check point in their neighborhood. Please explain , why the westend must lose during derby. Explain to the workers why they have a lack of customer, and they will be sent home early this weekend. What I find disgusting is so many people are like French Toast, they can careless about The Rule Of Law or what is right.

It's regretful that Phoenix don't get it. Safety, law and order is number 1 priority. This is usually what happens in most situation where a few ruin it for everyone. It happens in school when a few ruin it for everyone. Anyone that truly thinks this is racial motivated should rethink. Most people saying it is racial are just using this tactic because it has worked before. Bullying the police department into getting what you want will never work. It seems like the derby festivities and back yard derby parties are too lame for the westenders. Derby cruising is not a Derby event. It is cruising on Derby day. The residents that live in the westend didn't like what went on but most will not vocalize this publically because of fear of retailation. Isn't that a great way to live!

Once again, Phoenix, most of the plaintiffs to the suit had operated their business prior to Derby cruising. Secondly, no business has the right to expect that some particular event will always be held in the same place. Thunder over Louisville used to be held out at the Fairgrounds. Did you hear Fairgrounds-area businesses griping when they moved it downtown? They should look at past years' revenues as bonuses rather than revenue streams guaranteed in perpetuity. Third, someone has to contribute that money you're so eager to give out. Most of that money comes from taxpayers. I'm not willing to have my taxes go up or have my city services reduced so that these businesses can get a 'free' monetary gift. Things change and these black-owned businesses can learn to roll with the punches, just like other businesses do.

Blacks are doing themselves no favor by screaming racism any time their parade gets rained on. You can watch this white dude explode if the city starts doling out free, unwarranted money to these Broadway-area businesses.

Dear Lea1, It is not me who can't grasp what is happening here. If safety is the issue what about the other 364 days of the year????Jerry can't pizz down my back and tell me it's raining. It's about money $$$$$ there is no noble cause here to protect the westend,it is called containment...
