I mean Boycott every last event, personally I can careless about the whole thing. But what I think is cold, is the fact, black business owners are getting the shaft and no one cares. How can you punish them because of there location. Guilty by association and people feel they should not be compensated? King Jerry wants to use Broadway a closing point for cruising on the backs of the westend. End crusisng without hurting the tax payers. (The Westend is paying the LMPD & Jerry to mistreat them.
Compensate them for what - trying to protect their business??? Derby cruising was ripe for all sorts of lawlessness and catastrophes. With all the crowds and the police limited to travel by foot, what would keep someone from shooting some innocent bystander and using the killing as a distraction for robbing some businesses? With fire apparatus unable to respond quickly, what would keep someone from setting fires for 'fun' or revenge knowing the fires would not be knocked down quickly.
Most of these businesses located on Broadway well before Derby cruising got started. No business has the right to expect that festivities, official or otherwise, centered a particular area will always be held and always be allowed in that area. Central Avenue used to be home to a largely white crowd just prior to Derby each year until the city decided to put an end to it. I don't recall the city compensating any businesses for that move.
Derby cruising is not a punitive action designed to punish black businesses. It is a plan to protect our city from the large-scale ruin that it has narrowly avoided in past years. Some black people need to stop crying foul every time things don't go their way. White people have to deal with changes and so should blacks.
