"It's unconventional, funky and downright different." -Carrie Weil, from the Feb 9 article entitled "Planned Skyscraper Would Be City's Tallest, Most Unusual"

How about 'downright ugly'? The building belongs in New Jersey, right next to the industrial plants. The last thing Louisville needs is a building that's complementary to this town's inelegant bridges. It's a crude design, which is not the highest form of art. Modern or industrial doesn't have to be ugly. Why not something sleek as well as unconventional? You see, it's not the art, it's the design. The design is not flattering, it's actually quite harsh and uninviting. If they are looking for unconventional, why not go with something better, something more along the lines of London's "Swiss Re Tower", or Hartford CT's "Phoenix Boat Building"? That is, if Modernist is a must.

While we're on the topic of Louisville architecture... The Louisville Airport should be relocated to a place outside of town (it's rather shoddy to have airplanes flying over most of the suburbs), and from now on Louisville neighborhood buildings should strive to have an old world European design. That's why Montreal is beautiful and unique, as well as other places such as New Orleans (pre-Katrina), and even Mariemont, Ohio. I would personally prefer tax money to be attributed to those two proposals rather than that particular skyscraper.

At any rate, if the proposed building is truly chosen from a great effort towards refinement, then perhaps the building should stand... as a monument to Louisville's low caliber of taste. That, of course, is something that should never happen. Louisville can indeed do much better.

It's a total waste of $380 millon! If they are going to spend that much on something, spend it on something that is pretty!

Another way to throw away money... I agree put it towards something that will be worthwhile in the different communities or something...

People said the same thing about the Humana building at Fourth and Main when it was proposed. My idea of a truly ugly building would be the National City building just across the street from Humana and that's already up!

I say 'back off' and let these people spend their own money. The building strikes me as creative, imaginative, and bold. It will become, I believe, a signature building for the Louisville skyline in a very positive way. Why do Louisville locals always have to think so small??? Roll Eyes

“In our experience, buildings that are good tend to make people uncomfortable at first because they never seen any thing like it.” The architect of the proposed building, Joshua Prince-Ramus. Smiler
