I think what the principal did was perfectly ok. Kids should be checked regularly for these kind of things, that way we don't have as many problems! In fact, Jefferson County Schools are going to start doing random drug tests on kids. Is THAT violating the Fourth Amendment? What are YOUR thoughts?

Though I'm undecided about the 4th amendment issue, I do not think that random drug tests are appropriate or useful. Having been tested multiple times as a traveling nurse, I felt that without probable cause, it was such a waste of time, money and my dignity. Yep, there are nurses who abuse drugs just like there are students who do (not to mention the squillion other professions!). There are, however, signs and behaviors that give the users away. Then, test 'em. Random? Wasted expense-few results.
Not necesarily. If kids knew they were beginning to do random drug tests, they(most) would be worried and stop doing what they have been doing. Though it may be testing kids who have never done drugs EVER in their life...the kids who DO do the drugs would be worried about getting expelled or suspended. *shrugs* I think it's effective.

No JCPS are not going to start doing that. You can't just think a kid is using drugs and then pull them to the bathroom at school and make them pee in a cup,..... IF they want sued then let them try. It's my responsibility to have check ups done on my children if I suspect drug or alcohol use,not the schools place. If the school suspects it then they should get ahold of the parents, not be parenting the students.

Well...I don't necesarily think it a waste. Even if the kids doing the drugs aren't the ones tested, the fact that they are DOING the random drug tests would surely make ME want to stop...expecially since kids are going to be suspended and maybe expelled. I don't know who you've talked to or anything, but every single one of my friends who do drugs, and beginning to stop because of these random drug tests. *shrugs*
