What I don't understand is why the woman and son then got out of the car and started cursing him, and I even seen a report where the son was kicking him while he was down. I realize everyone was probably heated, angry, upset and scared but what was the point in all that transpired after she shot him?

First of all I want to say that I support the right to carry firearms. I believe in the use of if in self defense; but I think that the women and her son should be charged with at least assault if she was found that she was acting in self defense. The reason being that if they got out of the car and were cursing and kicking him. It's bad enough that she shot him when she could have rolled up the windows and locked the doors. The use of a firearm should only be used as a last resort. Obviously she had a cell phone why couldn’t she have called the cops before she decided to fire. I really don't think that this was a case of self defense.

Yes she could have but what if he had a gun when he approached them and shot them first? So while that's a nice thought, it's not necessarily the best defense.

Certainly, but by the time the cops got there, it would have been all over with anyway. So again, not the best defense.

Exactly. Will we ever know if it was the last resort though? Seems to me the 'incident' was going on for quite awhile, so it may have seemed to be the last resort for the woman. However, once he was down, they should have let it go at that. There was no reason to make matters worse by cursing and kicking him.

First, he apparently didn't have a gun. Otherwise, the police would have reported that. Second, are we all going to develope 'itchy' trigger fingers on the basis that someone might have a gun??? She, herself stated that she had already placed the gun within easy reach. This was daylight with plenty of people around.

Very few people are going to an 'instant' kill. Even if this guy was extremely agitated or deranged, it probably would have taken several minutes for him to shoot a gun. They apparently had no previous aquaintance.

Listen to the 911 call yourself. This woman sounds like a real hothead. JMHO

I am mixed on this...
From personal experience, I know how easy it is for person to put their fist through a window. It happened to me. Not only did the fist connect with my face, but I was sprayed in glass and pretty cut up. I would like to think that I would have waited until the threat was more imminent, but again, based on the past, I would not have had confidence that my window would have provided adequate protection under the circumstances.
I was not there, so I don't know how stressed she may have already been, or how threatened she felt prior to him dismounting from his bike and coming back to confront her.
There is no excuse for the response of her or her son after the man was shot and on the ground.
