Road rage shooting being called self-defenseAs a previous long-time rider (15 years +) I know what you're saying is true. People often don't see anything other than a car, truck, or other big box. Bikes, scooters, and motorcycles don't seem to exist to many.
Cell phones have made things much, much worse. Several years ago, I was passing behind the Mid-City Mall at Baxter Avenue and Goddard. This young driver on Goddard stopped for the stop sign but failed to yield the right away. I incurred about $7000 damage to my car but no injuries. She went unconscious. If I had been on a motorcycle, I would have been injured or dead.
The main problem is that drivers don't focus on driving any more. Using your cell phone hands-free doesn't help if you're engaged in a heated argument with your soon-to-be-ex boyfriend / girlfriend. Maps should be looked at
before you're on the road. Eating and driving don't mix either.
All the same, anyone who gets out / off his or her vehicle and approaches someone else's vehicle is begging for trouble. If someone is tailgating me, I'll slow down a bit and encourage them to pass me. You would have thought that the shooting at the Krogers in J-town would have taught us a lesson.

Don't let the sound of your own wheels make you crazy.
