Hmm...Well isn't that a shame. If I was a parent(which we won't go into details but...)I would most certainly want the schools to actually CARE about my kids. It's better than them not caring at all, and hoping your kid would die! You don't haveto like the proposition, but that doesn't change the fact that they are 95% sure they are going to do it. They know they are going to be some little whiney parents sayin they don't want them to "parent" their kids...but the fact of the matter is you have to keep kids safe and keep the school safe as well.

American Woman, I understand your outrage.... but who do you hold responsible for your child's safety while at school? The administration of the school, right? So if they feel it necessary to drug test to preserve the safety of all children, then I don't see the issue. I applaud your ownership in rearing your children. It is true that many parents feel that it is the responsibility of the school and blame everyone but theirselves when things go wrong. So the school is left with either picking up the responsiblity or letting all to to h3ll in a handbasket.

Whoa, Girl! It is, indeed, the job of parents, not schools, to parent their children. Keeping their children safe while in school is a reasonable expectation of school administrations. Another expectation is that the schools educate their children in grammer, math, sciences, etc. While schools should expect students to uphold standards that create a positive learning environment, parents should be teaching their children those standards. I know, some don't. Back in the dark ages, there were some parents like that, too. Zoo makes a very good point, though. Schools are sometimes in a catch-22 when it comes to balancing parental and school responsibilities. Again harking to the dark ages, the schools weren't held responsible for students' bad behavior--their home environment was. School boards are elected, therefore representing parents to the school officials. Seems like a thankless job as it's hard to please everybody.

DO the world a favor and don't have any children if you do not know the difference between a whining parent and a responsible parent.

I hold the school responsible if my child gets hurt under their care due to neglect,abuse,...type things NOT because my child might use drugs. It's my place to handle him if he's doing drugs and trust me he will be dealt with and I will call the police on my own child as much as it would hurt but I will if I have to. If my son falls down the stairs at school and breaks an arm or leg that's one thing, but grabbing my son by his neck or choking him,or anything else that's wrong in that kind of manner that is the things I speak of. Yes I hope you do see my rage over this. I am his parent and it's my duty to parent him not the schools. I also see yours and others points on just how often children go unattended or not cared for,but that should not be shoved on us parents who do care and will handle our children if they get out of line. Bottom line for me is I parent my children and do it well so I don't want someone else trying to step over me and "parent" my children. My only duty to them is not just sending them to school,it's also punishing them if they step out of line at school. It's a slap in the face having schools correct your children or step in and take over your duty when you are more than capable and willing to handle it yourself. Would it be ok to be pulled over anytime an officer feels like it and tells you to pee in a cup because they suspect you might be doing drugs? Hey they are just looking out for our safety right? When are people whom are responsible people going to be treated like it? I feel like they are saying we ALL are ignorant parents and can't handle our own children so they have to do it.
