Why do we need a new arena? Freedom Hall is a perfectly fine venue for the sporting events that are held here in Louisville. All this new arena is going to do is jack up taxes and cause a lot of headaches. I know, "oh the revenue that is going to be brought to Louisville with the new arena!" Louisville gets plenty of revenue with all of the different shows and conventions that take place over at the fairgrounds. Give the "little guy" a break and don't do this. The average person is barely making ends meet now, they don't need their taxes hiked because someone wants a bigger place to play basketball.
Freedom Hall would be fine for a small, no-where town like Vincennes, Indiana. It is a disgrace for a city the size of Louisville, Kentucky. This good-enough attitude of yours and others is a large part of what is holding Louisville back. Nobody wants to rock the boat out of fear that they might not like the new Louisville created by the changes proposed.
Other cities are growing and moving forward. Louisville has been slipping slowly but steadily behind. Many of our young people are finding it necessary to move away from this area in order to establish their careers.
When are we going to get over this Mayberry mindset of accepting things as they are and start to grow our city again? There will always be people with limited incomes struggling to get by. We've got to stop using poverty as an excuse to do nothing new.

Just what about Freedom Hall is a disgrace, for goodness sake? It's a well maintained, versatile facility that seats a large number of people and has adequate parking. Blowing more money on a facility that will only decrease the utilization of an existing facility won't create more wealth for Louisville. Nor will it create growth, well-paying jobs or any of the other lame arguments put forth. Outrageously high taxes...now there's a good reason to move away!!
I understand that a city the size of Louisville needs to grow and thrive. When they do put this new arena in, whereever they are going to put this new arena in, people of limited incomes won't be able to afford to go to many if any of the events. This will be due to the fact that the admission for events will be so astronomical. I am from Boston and when they tore down the Boston Garden and built the Fleet Center, attendance at Bruins and Celtics games had dropped due to the new admissions to events. The admissions had gone up due to the fact they had gone so over budget. Every project I have seen of this size always goes over budget and the little guys ends up being the one paying for it.
