No. None whatsoever. I love SP2. It has a great firewall built in as well as an excellent pop-up blocker. (I previously relied on free, separate programs to perform these two functions.) My computer has been quite stable since I downloaded it.
I have automatic updates set up on my computer. With all the bad 'bogeymen' out there, I don't see any reason to surf naked. SP2 monitors my anti-virus definitions, firewall setup, and automatic updates to alert me when there's a problem. That's the way I like it.
Don't let the sound of your own wheels make you crazy.

I too have the Windows XP SP2, that I have downloaded from Microsoft. No problems, and have my computer set to inform me when ever ther are new updates. Evertime a new update or problem exist out there My computer notify me that there is an update to install. Works great for me. Give it a try, there shouldn't be a problem if you keep up with the updates.
