I recently purchased a new computer with Norton security for 30 days free. I thought it would be easy to install another security system of my choice by purchasing the software and installing it. However, I was told by a pro this is easier said than done. That, in fact, I would probably need to pay someone that knows how to get rid of the system that came with the computer. What is this all about? If anyone has had problems with this or not, please let me know, as my 30 days is almost up. The continuance of the program in the computer will cost twice as much as one I can purchase! This resonable priced computer is starting to cost a bundle. Help!

A pro should not be necessary to rid your computer of Norton. All you need to do is go into the computer's Control Panel, click on 'Add or Remove Programs', find the Norton program and click on it, then click the button that says 'Change/Remove'.
To replace the Norton program, I'd recommend AVG Antivirus. It's available free from download.com.
I hate to counter you again toast but the free AVG is NOT a full version and it does not carry a comprehensive system manager. I use system mechanic. It is worth the money and the only PC based system manager/firewall AND anti viral that I use and recommend. Always remember that with any computer you get what you pay for. If it is a free download, you might get an anti viral setup to protect against the contemporary generation but viruses and spyware change all the time and a free versions are never a grantee. Or you can get a MAC and never worry about viruses or spyware again.

We also purchased a new computer with 30 days of Norton. I allowed it to expire and by using add/remove in the control panel completely removed the software. Insight has FREE anti-virus, spyware and adware that I downloaded and installed, no problems, no viruses(do the free scans offered from web sites!) Set up the automatic scans and automatic updates to keep everything running smooth......
