You are living in a very dangerous dream world, Angel if you think that pedophiles don't live in rural areas. The new rules barring them from living within 1000 feet of the edge of a school, playground, etc has pushed many of them out into sparsely populated areas like yours. quote: Originally posted by Angel: We know our neighbor`s and we also know when a stranger is around and we all watch out for the other. We yell "Hello" at the other when they walk outside.Do you do that there in Louisville? You would probably be arrested for disturbing the peace.
Yes, Angel, I know my neighbors and I often greet them by name. quote: Originally posted by Angel: We also dont have to worry about wearing a mask over our face from all the smog of "the big city" .
Louisville is not a smog-ridden city. We've made great strides in the last decade regarding air pollution. You would know that if you would visit more frequently. quote: Originally posted by Angel: We can walk outside in our undies if we wanted to. Can you, without getting arrested?

Gee Whiz Kittyman, lighten up!!!!!!! I know the goofballs live everywhere, but as far as I know none of my neighbors, the ones who live on my road I should say, are in the "pact". That was what I meant. I was not implying they didnt live in Springfield itself,or even the county. The area where I live there are about 5 registered sex offenders within the zipcode, and that dosent even include Springfield!!Have you ever went to the sex offender site and done a check within your zipcode and see how many are registered within your zip code? Your jaw will drop to the floor to realize how many there really are out there. I have put in different zipcodes and can not believe how many there are.I do know they are out there and living within a close distance . I do not live in a dream world kittyman, I live right here on good ole earth. [QUOTE] It's not the threat of arrest that keeps me from going outside in my undies - it's the wisecracks from the neighbors! [QUOTE] So, are you telling me that you are a little on the "round"side ? Bald or pencil thin? Or............. ?? You need to lighten up kittyman , I was just trying to tell you that living in a very small community has a lot of rewards other than not being able to have broadband. I do venture out into the big city of Louisville once in a while. I was just there Saturday night. And no I did not get lost . At night you can sit out on the porch, or deck, and see the stars in the sky and yea, I know you can do that in the city also, but they just look brighter out in the country . We dont have to worry about all that traffic and the horns blaring at all hours of the night, unless someone wants something and they are too lazy to get out and walk to the door and knock . I guess city life has a few good points, close to the hospital, police, looneybin ,,, just teasing.

Yep ,you are right. I was raised in the country and I love it. I am not knocking you for living in the city. I just like to get your dander up a bit. Makes for a more interesting conversation, dont you think? quote: Scratch that last thought. I'm not round but I am definately not 'ripped'. It hard to be an adonnis past forty.
You make me laugh, kittyman. I am glad you are not a bit on the round side or even the last thought I had. I might have had to resist the urge to cross the street to the other side if I saw you coming my way .

I am getting ready to move to a rural area. I work from home and having internet access is a must. How good are the wireless cards? I have to have high speed, do they offer high speed or are they slow like dial up? Thanks K

I'm sorry folks, but my post had nothing to do with Louisville. I lived there and I hated it, but that was beside the point.
Here's another shout for you. There is another type of broadband called BPL (broadband by power line). It offers 3G downloads AND uploads, and it is cheaper to run because people with internet service obviously have power lines. There's a modem that plugs into any outlet, and you're online.
Guess what. It's been around for a few years, and we still don't have it. Earnie Fletcher started this thing called Connect Kentucky, which is a group dedicated to getting the entire state on boradband by the end of this year, and this is THE solution. Our co-ops offer the internet service, and we receive it through our power lines. It takes the power away from the big phone companies, and lowers energy costs because co-ops don't have to pay meter readers (meter readers didn't plan to retire in our yards, did they?)
I just want someone to tell me when I can get it or help me get the word out that it exists and help me promote it so someone will get a clue. There's nothing to run, they just have to bypass the signal past transformers so our computers don't fry and sell us the service.
Anyone?
By the way, the wireless cards are just as expensive and they drop anywhere a cell phone would. Satellite is also costing me an arm and a leg right now.
