One problem is that power lines were not designed to cary data or RF. The RF is not shielded so it bleeds off and could be deciphered from quite a distance. Another problem is that the RF bleed off could/will cause a lot of interference to Public Service radio and Ham radio. I would hate to have the ambulance loose radio communications on the way to pick up me or a loved one.

It looks like it is considered something of a pipe dream right now. I've been watching the stock of one of the major players in broadband over power line, Ambient Corp (ABTG). Its stock trades over the counter for less than a quarter so investors must have some serious doubts about it. Frowner

The wirelss options are expensive! If they can ever get the cost lowered it might be a viable option.

I can't stand the cable company because of their shadey business practices, but for now, I guess I am going to stick with them.

Roll EyesWhoa, hold on there Hoss! I have wireless broadband for $39.95 a month at thy home! We are in a rural area, and our local phone company, SEI Data in Indiana, put a box and tower on top of the nearest water tower and put a receiver gizmo of some kind on the roof of our house, ran a cable thru the wall into a router on my PC and VIOLA...I have wireless broadband. Wow, was I ever shocked as I never thought we'd have fast internet connection here in the country! It's wonderful, and I thank SEI Data.
