A friend needed a heavy transfer so I piggy backed it on my Lacie drive to his laptop.
I made the mistake of assuming that Vista would be able to accept my Lacie Aux drive as my XP, OS9 and OSX computers can without trouble.
At first the icon for the drive did not appear when it was connected via FW.
The manager did not carry a drive id eather.
So I switched to USB (since PCs are still to lame to have 800 ports).
The Icon still did not appear so I searched the drive under the manager.
It was there but with no letter.
So I designated one to it as I would on earlier windows series. Which seamed pretty stupid as Vista is supposed to be newer.
Then, WITHOUT EVEN ASKING or so much as a warning, vista begins reformatting my drive. I didn’t even know what was happening until I noticed my lacie drive was process blinking. There wasn’t even a progress bar on the screen or a notice of process.
By then it was too late. After ten seconds it had wiped the drive.
Three months of work, down the drain.
Instead of just designating a drive letter or directly establishing the drive as an external devise via FW or USB Vista reformatted it.
How much more lame can vista get?
Not only did it wipe out all my own projects but it clipped the onboard software as well.
Meaning, now it is just another mundane aux drive.
When I connect it now, it comes up as an untitled eternal drive rather then the cool lacie icon that usually appears.

I went back home, got my friend a fresh copy of XPpro, gave him a nice swat upside the head and continued to everyone in my network until vista was purged entirely.
I’ve given this latest failure of Microsoft enough slack as it is and now it’s actually proven to be dangerous to use.
Vista just isn’t worth it.

This may have been due to how this person had his OS set but i doubt it.
A computer doesn't just start formatting an external device or drive without telling you.
