I would like to place a potted evergreen on each side of french doors. The pots would be placed on an elevated deck which therefore would allow air flow to the bottom of the pot. Two questions: #1 Do you think they would survive our winters (don't want to bring them indoors) - #2 What evergreens are recommended (something at least 3-5 ft. tall)?

Here's a short list of some evergreens that are suitable for containers.

Buxus sempervirens Common boxwood
Pinus spp. Various dwarf varieties
Arborvitae spp. Various dwarf varieties
Tsuga spp. various dwarf varieties
Picea spp. Various dwarf varieties
Chamaecyparis pisifera ‘Filifera Aurea’ Golden Japanese False Cypress
Taxus baccata English yew
Euonymous fortunei Wintercreeper
