Hi, we rencently planted new tea roses in a new garden for the second time. The first time, the leaves were falling off and the rose buds looked as though they had been snapped off. Where the "snap" was was brittle. I took them out and we went to work on ensuring the garden had proper drainage. Once finished I planted new roses and within one day of being planted it looks like the same thing is happening, all starting from the bottom. One plant has a new shoot coming up from the bottom but each day it looks like more leaves are falling off. Is it shock? I checked for bugs and sprayed just in case and have fertilized with a transplant fertilizer.
The best time to plant roses is in late winter or early spring when they are still dormant. Your plants are very likley going through a very stressful period, given the current heat and humidity. Use a water soluble fertilizer on them if you didn't when you planted them, keep them well watered and keep your fingers crossed. They may survive.
