What type of evergreen trees can I plant inside an established wooded area --- those that will grow in a shady area? Purpose is to establish a year-round border to a subdivision behind our house. Leaves from established trees will be falling soon and I was hoping to plant some evergreens this Fall.
thanks

Hollies and Mahonias can take some shade, and so can hemlocks. Rhododendrons would work, and some Viburnum species remain semi evergreen and can take shade. You'll have to makse sure that you really baby them with extra water and fertilzer for the first couple of years until they get established.
